Privacy Policy
The short version: this is a simple static website and we collect almost nothing from visitors. Last updated: September 21, 2026.
1. Who we are
Aroostook.ME (the "Site") is operated and hosted by Alexander Wasson, with content contributions and editing by Charlie Cormier. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle when you visit the Site, and when you advertise with us.
2. What this policy covers
There are two very different situations, and we treat them differently:
- Visitors, people who simply read the Site. We collect almost nothing from you.
- Businesses that advertise, businesses that purchase listings or featured placement on the Site. We hold the business information you provide for that purpose.
3. What we collect from visitors
The Site is a collection of static HTML pages. The Site itself does not run accounts, comment systems, forms, or payment processing for visitors, so we do not collect any personal information from visitors directly, no names, emails, addresses, or payment details.
Like any website served over the internet, your web host and network providers may see and log technical data such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. That logging is outside our control and is handled by the hosting provider and any network infrastructure between you and the Site.
4. What we collect from businesses & advertisers
Businesses that advertise on the Site share information with us so we can display their listing or featured placement. That typically includes the business name, description, hours, location, phone, email or website, photos, and logo, plus contact and billing information we need to send an invoice or communicate about the placement.
Please understand:
- Anything you submit for a listing is published publicly on the Site. It is not private. Do not include anything you would not want displayed publicly (including personal phone numbers or addresses, use business contact details).
- Contact information you use just to communicate with us (for example, the email address on your invoice) is not published and is kept for business correspondence.
- If a payment is processed online, the payment processor completes the transaction under its own privacy policy; we do not see or store full payment card numbers.
We keep advertiser records only as long as needed to provide the service, comply with any recordkeeping requirements, or resolve disputes. When a placement is cancelled or ends, you may ask us to remove your listing and any associated data.
5. Cookies
The Site does not place first-party cookies for tracking, advertising, or analytics. Some third-party resources used to make the Site work (see below) may place cookies or similar technologies under their own control.
6. Third-party services
The Site loads a few external services to function:
- Google Fonts, to display the Site's typography. When a page loads, your browser may request fonts from Google, and Google may receive technical information about that request. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- OpenStreetMap, the interactive map on the Maps page is embedded from OpenStreetMap. When you view or interact with the map, OpenStreetMap handles that traffic. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.
- Payment processing, if a business pays for Advertising online, the payment processor handles that transaction under its own privacy policy.
We do not sell, rent, or trade any information to third parties, we have none to sell.
7. Advertising & your privacy
Business advertising on the Site takes the form of listings and featured placements, it is not behaviorally targeted advertising. We do not use third-party advertising networks, ad trackers, or profiling, and we do not build or sell audiences.
- Advertisers do not receive any information about who visits the Site or who views their listing.
- No cookies or other identifiers are set on visitors for advertising purposes.
- Your browsing on the Site is never shared with, or used to select ads for, specific advertisers.
8. Analytics
We do not currently run analytics. If we add analytics or any data collection in the future, we will update this policy before doing so.
9. Children's privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
10. Your rights & choices
Visitors: because the Site collects no personal data directly from you, there is little to access or delete. If you have questions about information you believe the Site may hold about you, contact us and we'll take a reasonable look and respond.
Businesses: you can ask us to correct or remove the business information in your listing, or to delete records we hold about you. Removals are processed promptly, except where we need to keep a record for legal or billing purposes.
11. Data security
We take reasonable measures to keep the Site and its hosting secure (including protecting the hosting account and serving the Site over HTTPS where possible). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
13. Contact
Questions or concerns about privacy? Contact us through the details on this Site. We'll do our best to answer promptly and honestly.
